Dear Diary

Kia ora,

this week for reading we read a book about a kid called Maia and her mum moving away but she didnt want to move so they had a fight. For our create we had to write what we think Maia’s diary would look like. This is what I think Maia’s diary would look like.

How Can We Be Champions Of Peace

Kia ora,

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the dove with an olive branch, koru, peace hand sign and the peace symbol also the tree of life.

These symbols represent peace because they symbol kindness and safety in the world it also represents love and trust.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because it shows the tree of life, a world and a peace sign. Saying that it is an everlasting world with peace in it.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Malala Yousafzai. I thought this person was a champion of peace because She fought for education of genders to be the same and she didnt give up. She also shows lots of principles of peace in her life and the way she acts.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helped me to learn that you need peace everyday and it can save lifes. We need peace between Russia an Ukraine so we can save them from getting hurt or passing away.

I learnt what the peace symbols mean and how to show peace in smaller form like holding the door open for someone.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping people out if they need help and showing peace in my community.

Question time: How can you be a champion of peace?

Reading Between The Lines

Kia ora welcome back to my blog,

This week for reading we have been reading between the lines and finding out what the picture is trying to tell us without saying it clearly. We had to find a comic and read between the lines we also had to add what we think the comic is telling us and what reading between the lines is. My goal was to independently predict, interpret and analyse text, ‘reading between the lines’ to gain a deeper meaning. Here is my create for the week.

Question time: Have you ever had to read between the lines?

Patient Protest

Kia ora this week for reading we had to make a sign for if we were in a protest. My sign is a protest about the Russian and Ukrainian war and how it should stop because people are dying and getting really badly injured. I learnt that there are alot of protests about problems but I think the biggest one is the war between Russian and Ukrain that is why i chose to do a sign about it. This is my reading create I think it shows my point that they need to stop the war.

Question time: What protest would you make a sign for?

Premium Poems

Kia ora, this term we have been looking at poetry such as haiku, Diamante, Biographical, Limerick and list poems. I had to do a few of each.Haiku poems are poems with 5 syllables for the first and last line and for the 2 line it is 7 syllables, you do if off of a subject. Next is Diamante poems they are in the shape of a diamond so the first and last lines are opposite like sun and moon, day and night, fire and ice and so many others. the next line is 2 adjectives as well as the second to last line and the middle line is 3 words that end in ing.

A Biographical poem is about a person, for the first line it is there name then the next line is 3 adjectives that discribe them then you have who their parents are, next line is what they like doing, what emotions they have felt, what fears they have, an accomplishments they have achieved and what they want to happend in the future, the last line is their last name.

A Limerick poem is when you rhyme the first two lines and last line, the 3rd and 4th line have to rhyme with eachother. Last is list poems you chose a subject and you have to do 8 lines about the subject you chose the good thing about this poem is you dont have to rhyme the lines if you don’t want to. here are my poems.

Question time: What was your favourite poem out of them all?

Splendid Science

Kia ora, over the past few weeks we have been doing science. In Science we have been learning about electricity. The name of the experiment was called battery power.

Our hypothesis was: I think that the salt will conduct a source of power/energy and it will make a unique sound. My conclusion was that my hypothesis was correct the buzzer made a high pitched sound.

Over the past two weeks we have been looking at power and which ones are renewable and not. Such as our cars. Our cars use a non renewable source of energy. Solar power is a renewable source of energy.

The items that we used were:

  • salt/ sodium (Na) and chloride (Cl)
  • tap water
  • buzzer
  • beaker T & S
  • speciman jar
  • 4 nails 2 copper and 2 zinc

To make it you have to add the nails on to speciman jar with the buzzer and slowly add the salt in the water.  We found out that when you shook the speciman jar it made the sound louder. I think this is because the water with the salt was moving around and touching the nails. I think if you fill up the jar more it would make a way louder sound.

Something I found challenging was we had to swap the nails to make it work and if you pick two of the same nail it would not work. Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing this one because you felt like you accomplished something because it made a high pitched sound and we had to swap it a few times.

Question time: Do you think it would work with less water?

Marvellous Maths

Kia ora

This week for maths I spun a wheel and had 6 options. the options were hot cakes, porridge, sausage sizzle, hot chocolate, toast and cereal. Sausage sizzle was picked most and cereal was picked least as well as hot cakes. I spun the wheel 45 times to see how many times I would land on each of them. I enjoyed creating this graph because it was different to what I normally do. Here is my create.

Question time: What one would you chose out of hot cakes, porridge, sausage sizzle, hot chocolate, toast and cereal?

Porridge Production

Kia ora this year St Francis Of Assisi has been working on a production called Porridge I am part of the dance committee and we have made some dances for our prodution. This week we had to make tickets and a poster and some great girls from our year made a site for a QR code and we had to put it on the ticket. The best one would get picked to be the cover for our production here is my poster and ticket.

Question time: Would you come to this production?

What would you chose?

Kia ora, this week for reading we read a book called The world will end said the cat, its about a cat thinking that the world is going to end. For our create this week we had to make google drawing to give him a decision. Here is my create for this week.

Question time: What would you chose?

Maniac Maths

Kia ora, this week we are doing probability our create is what is the probability of it landing on heads or tails? I tossed a coin 50 times and it was 23 to tails and 27 to heads so it landed on head 4 more times than it did on heads. Here is my create.

Question time: Have you ever tossed a coin and what was the out come?
